Source Vulnerability Assessment of Water Source

Water Source Vulnerability Assessment survey

The haphazard use of lands above aquifers presents a variety of water quality protection problems because of improper disposal of hazardous solid wastes; leachates, organic chemicals, nutrients, heavy metals, and microbes from domestic, municipal, and industrial wastes; effects of spreading pesticides and fertilizers on land; and accidental or deliberate release of contaminants onto the land surface. The basic concept of groundwater vulnerability is that some land areas are less able to adsorb, dispense, or retard these contaminants; and thus, are more vulnerable to anthropogenic contamination than other areas.

Source Vulnerability Assessment investigates the likelihood that a water source will be affected by any contamination. Conceptual and doable strategies, contingencies and mitigation measures for the protection of the water source are developed.
